From September to April on every second and fourth Thursday come to the Village Hall to watch a film.  We try to ensure a mix of popular and less well-known films with the occasional foreign-language oeuvre also.   Bar at 7.30, film at 8.00.

Begins 27th September with a blockbuster


Now is the time to become a Friend Of The Festival.  A donation of £20 will provide some start-up funds and will also entitle you and a guest to enjoy the forthcoming season of films.

Pub Quiz

On the first Wednesday of each month (more or less) exercise your grey cells in the Woodpecker.  Sections on science, entertainment, geography, sport and general knowledge. 

Entry costs £2 per person, maximum of 6 to a team.  Funds go to Dorset Air Ambulance and there is wine for the winners.  8 pm start.

Kate Adie in Stur Marshall

Kate Adie CBE DL, the well known author and broadcaster, will start the Mackrell Charity’s 2018/19 series of history talks on the theme of Powers, Dominions and Dynasties. Kate’s talk entitled, “Take me to your leader – a correspondent’s experience,” will take place at 2.30pm on Saturday 13th October at the Old School, Sturminster Marshall.  Before the talk, Kate Adie will announce this year’s winner of the Dee Butterfield Scholarship for Young People.

The lecture series continues with an exciting line up of speakers who will present as follows:

  • The History of Russia by Dr George Gilbert – Saturday 10th November 2018
  • Kipling’s India by Andrew Lycett – Saturday 26th January 2019
  • Iran – Land of Great Kings, Shahs and Ayatollahs by John Osbourne – Saturday 16th March 2019

All talks will be take place at 2.30pm in The Old School, Sturminster Marshall.

Tickets are £6 for each talk (to include tea and cake) and can be purchased in advance of the lecture by calling 01258  857528.  All proceeds will go to the Mackrell Charity.

Charlton Marshall Cubs & Beavers annual duck race

On Sunday 14th October, Charlton Marshall Cubs & Beavers have their annual duck race.

Midday at Spetisbury beach (The river crossing just along from Spetisbury village hall)

There will be the duck race, along with a BBQ and raffle.

Duck race prizes are: £50 first prize, £40 Hall and Woodhouse vouchers second prize, £10 third prize.

Tickets are £1 each for duck race or raffle tickets and are available on the day.
